Derivative Coffee Roasters was Established in Seattle in 2023 with a single goal: Provide people with the beans necessary to create the best cup of coffee they have ever had. Why do you need good beans? Your cup of coffee is a derivative of the beans you use to brew it.

Roasting Philosophy
We roast your coffee in small batches. When we say small, we mean between 1 and 15 lbs of coffee per batch depending on the type of coffee being roasted. By doing so, we have a greater amount of control over what happens during the roast. This allows us to ensure you are getting all the flavors that you want, and none of the flavors you don't. We roast using 3 different machines: The Arc 800, the Besca BSC 4.5, and the Diedrich IR-12.

Our Founder
Meet Matt Clemens! After five years working in the bicycle industry, Matt decided that he was ready for a new adventure. Coffee has always been a passion of his, preparing espresso drinks and roasting coffee at home for friends and family. He founded Derivative Coffee Roasters so that he could share this joy with everyone, near and far. When he isn't roasting, bagging, and shipping your coffee, you can find him working as a barista at a local coffee shop or out hiking on the trails with his wife and two dogs.

Our Aim
Our aim is to provide you with delicious coffee that you can use and enjoy every day. It will always be freshly roasted. We also want to push the industry forward by experimenting with fun new coffee varieties and roast profiles, so keep an eye out for our rotating limited coffees. We also acknowledge that coffee sourcing has large scale impacts on both the environment and the people working throughout the supply chain.
